Long time no blog

Sorry for the lack of bloggage: I’ve been really busy with everything lately. Things are going well though, except for my hayfever which has been really bad this evening. I must get some nose spray tomorrow.

I went up to Scotland for a stag do last weekend. It was excellent fun - especially meeting up with people I’ve not seen in ages and meeting some new folk. It’s just a shame there was so little time, and that I had been too busy to organise more stuff for it. Still, I think everyone had a good time, so that was a relief.

Right, I’m getting an early night tonight. I’m already in bed, and I can hardly keep my eyes open. It’s such an exciting life…

Jazz FM: RIP

I’m not convinced this is a good move for me personally, but Jazz FM has shut up shop, and will re-launch on the 7th June as Smooth FM.

I’ve listened to Jazz FM since it launched, and remember it having a crisis problem when it changed to J FM, and then back. Anyway, in my opinion the station has gone down hill in recent years - I guess as it tries to appeal to a wider audience - so I’ve not been listening to it so much over the last year or so.

One thing that bugs me is they are always playing Sade! I can’t stand her! It’s funny (not really) how often she comes on, and when she does I have to hop stations straight away - usually to Classic FM. I must be getting old. But I really can’t stand her music: I guess it’s just played too much.

And I ran out of beer tonight. That sucks.

Right, I’m going to get an early night - stag do tomorrow, so gotta be on the ball!

Windows Small Business Server

I guess starting your first ever install of Windows Small Business Server 2003 at 9.00 PM isn’t such a good idea!

A friend has given me a very nice rack-mount server (2U, 2 x 1 GHz Xeon processors, 4GB RAM, SCSI Ultra 160 disc), and I’ve been meaning to have a look at Small Business Server for some time now, so this is the perfect oportunity. It’s just such a noisy machine!

Ah well, guess I need more beer… Have been working through some Morland’s Hen’s Tooth ale and Tanner’s Jack bitter this evening. Very nice :-)

Update I’ve got the Exchange server POP-connector thing working now, and the web interface version of Outlook 2003 is all working (over SSL).

It’s funney; I’m not a Windows person, but it is often easier to get going than Linux (which I do really like). Of course, easy to setup doesn’t mean secure, and I’m not happy about opening up my firewall for this service, but if I don’t then it’s no use.

Hmm, I think I should have just installed debian… Talking of which, I’ve made a few tweaks to the new BritBlog server - it’s nearly there!
