Lacie 319 - 19" LCD Display

Lacie 319Well I’ve finally taken the plunge and ordered my first TFT display - a Lacie 319. On the face of it it’s not the best specification in the world (only 1280×1024 screen resolution and not that bright), but if you dig a bit deeper you’ll see it offers a CRT-grade color gamut which I’m hoping will actually be as good as it sounds.

The screen comes with a colour calibrator and a hood too, so the theory is I should be able to get good colour rendition in my images. Anyway, if this works well I may think about getting a higher resolution 20″ one in a few months :-)

I’ve just ordered one of these because I sat at my workstation (at home) last night for the first time in 8 months (or maybe longer), and I was amazed to see all the colours it could render (I was looking at some of my photos). I’ve been doing all my photo image processing on my very old and very cheap work laptop for the last few months, and the screen on that is just dreadful. I’ve got to do some photos for a friend (for her wedding), so I think it’s about time I started to worry about things like this. If you take a look at my beer bottle photos on flickr, you may ea ble to see that some of them appear on quite grey backgrounds. I wasn’t aware of this until recently, because they all look like they’re on white on my laptop. Rambling now. Must get on with work.
