Ping server survey, October 2006

Here are the uptime results for the Blog Ping Relay Server survey I’m carrying out for October 2006. For details of the methodology take a look at last month’s results. I am currently monitoring the following three ping services: Autopinger, Blogflux, and Ping-o-matic.

Server Uptime Results

Uptime Problem* Down** Error Time
Autopinger 97.99% 1.99% 0.02% 14h 56m
Blogflux 58.29% 41.64% 0.07% 12d 22h 20m
Pingomatic 98.01% 1.99% 0.00% 14h 47m

*For example, couldn’t connect to web server, web server failed to respond in time, web server returned an invalid response etc.
**For example a server 500 error or a DNS outage.

So this month Pingomatic had an fairly impressive uptime, with Autopinger hot on its heels. Blogflux had a very dissapointing month with only 58% uptime.

Again, the main problem experienced by Blogflux was very slow performance, resulting in connection timeouts or no response once connected within 10 seconds.

And again just like last month, both Pingomatic and Autopinger had very good response times - the overall process usually taking 300 to 600 milliseconds for both of them.

    Hi Mark!

I thought I’d swing by and say hello and thanks for the drink on Saturday. It was lovely to meet you, and I’m sorry it was for such a short time :)

I also wanted to say that saying ‘I’ll have to read that’ is the BEST response to not having a blimmin clue about someone’s blog that I have ever recieved. I have decided to adopt it for mine own as it beats the ‘Oh…erm..I haven’t read that’ response hands down!

See you again at another meet soon I hope

    Cheerful One x

Heheh, it was a nice session — allbeit rather short. You should come to the Christmas bogmeet - I hear it’s going to be a blast ;-)

This is useful information to those that would rather ping a centralized service rather than one at a time. Judging from your list, Blogflux is about as reliable as a Raider’s fan on a Monday morning.

I’m told that both Autopinger and Blogflux should be improving in the new year… Time will tell!
