Motorola MOTORAZR maxx V6

I finally got around to replacing my old Sony Ericsson K750i. After two frustrating years with these Sony telephones (the joystick stopped working on both of them after just a few months), I’ve gone for something totally different: a Motorola MOTORAZR maxx V6. The MOTORAZR maxx V6 is a bit different to my old ‘phones, so here are my thoughts so far.

My main reasons for this selection were (a) the phone is very slim and lightweight, and (b) the phone has a touch pad controller rather than a joystick, so it shouldn’t stop working so quickly.

It’s been a bit odd getting used to the new menu layout, but the biggest change is the space button (when writing a text message) and writing mode button (predictive text, normal, numbers etc.) are in opposite positions to my old phone, so I keep bodging SMS messages.

Other than that, so far so good. It’s got a bright screen, it’s easy to use, it comes with a USB cable and synchronises with my computer address book and calendar well. The camera seems quite good too, though that’s not really a selling point for me.

Build-wise the ‘phone is nice too. It feels like it’s mainly made of metal, and the back has a matte black slightly rubberised feel, which is very nice. The ‘phone also has 3G, so I really should get a data allowance from Orange. The problem with this is that Orange doesn’t have any sensibly priced data bundles. I’ve heard of some networks that give you unlimited data for eight quid a month, but Orange want to charge £4 for only 4MB, or £8 for 10MB. Totally stupid!

The photo above was taken in my Lastolite Cubelite, and I’m quite pleased with the result :-)

Thanks for writing this Mark, my old phone went to the great mobi in the sky. I was looking for something nice and sturdy… anyway after reading what you had put I spotted one locally, so I bought it £50. It has to be the cheapest and best built phone I’ve bought. Anyway waffling over, thanks for the heads up.

BTW I still can’t work out how the Technoranki ratings work, any hints?
