Blog Ranking Update: Change of plan for Technoranki

The Blog Ranking service, Technoranki, is going to be merged back into BritBlog. With only limited time to spend on BritBlog, Technoranki, and various other projects that I’m involved with, I’ve decided to take this route so that I can focus more on BritBlog.

What will change?

From Technoranki’s point of view, the website will be dropped and the Technoranki icons will be replaced with BritBlog trackers.

From a BritBlog point of view, this news is great! It means that all the problems I’ve had with syncing the two sites (adding new BritBlog blogs into Technoranki, and especially tracking spam blogs across both sites) will be gone.

From the point of view of the members of these sites, it means that only one BritBlog icon will need to be placed on member sites instead of two (the BritBlog one and the Technoranki tracker one). All BritBlog blogs will be added to the blog charts automatically (as they will now run from the one system - yippee!), and the charts will simply reflect the ‘top’ British Blogs instead of the ‘top’ global blogs, as was the original plan with Technoranki.

Disruption should be kept to a minimum, and in fact may even be none-existent. I’ll know more when I’ve planned this properly.

When will it change?

That’s a good question. At this stage all I’ve done is make the decision, but I expect it to happen after the new BritBlog servers and code go live. This date is still undetermined (yawn), but there’s no point doing it before then.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to leave a comment below or drop me an email. I’m convinced this is a good move though, and hope everyone sees this as a step in the right direction.
